What are Futures bets?

While Future bets are prominent throughout sports betting, they are not just limited to sports. Future Bets can be about any subject. If you want to bet on who is going to win a Grammy three months before, or what singer will have a wardrobe malfunction next, go for it! The dummy definition of a future bet is, a wager made for an event that will happen in the future. The future could be tomorrow, or a couple months from now. The most popular future bets are over what team will win the title. Those are not the only ones, as most sportsbooks offer future bets over a regular season game. Some places even offer future bets on divisional or conference champions in a sport. Because these bets are made early, most of the time the bettors will have great odds. In pre-season, the Saints could have 25/1 odds, but come week 12, New Orleans has been lowered to 8/1. What a difference! The difference is $17.00 for every dollar risked! Some places even offer how many wins teams will get during the regular season. For example, in July, if the Chicago Bears were expected to get 9 wins, you would see a line like this: Over 9 wins: +125, Under 9 wins: -145. If this were the case, if you wagered $100 that they would win more than nine, and they did, you would win $125. If they won nine games, you would "push" or tie, and your money would be refunded. Of course, if they only won eight games, or less, you would lose your wager. Remember when talking about how much money you win, you also get your bet money back as well.

The majority of future bets are using Moneyline bets. What this means is the bettor is betting the amount he/she can gain from a $100 wager. An example would be, if you thought the Cleveland Browns were going to win the Super Bowl, and their Moneyline is +650, if you place the bet you will risk $100 to win $ 650. You do not have to bet $100, but no matter what you wager, the payout will change according to your wager.

Many avid sports bettor have betting strategies on making future bets. It is extremely tough at times to make future bets, because there are so many variables. Will the best player be healthy all year? Will the team make a trade? The best advice on a future bet would be to find a bet that you feel is worth the risk you are taking. A lot of times you will see a handicapper make a team such a huge favorite that the bet may not be worth the risk. When looking at total wins, do your research. It's like bargain shopping. We have all seen the team that comes from the bottom, or middle of the league and rises towards the top. That team will put up for more wins than most expected. Now, it's easier said than done, and don't just look at the stars, look at the entire roster to determine the team success.

One of the hardest parts about future bets is that your money is tied up until that event happens. Some bettors don’t like having that money tied up and unusable for this long. Just remember this when making your next future bet.
