Baccarat - Rules of the Game
Card games have been storming the casinos since their conception and Baccarat is no exception. With its first appearance in Italy, Baccarat had undergone numerous transformations for every country it has been. There is Chemin de Fer from France, European Baccarat, and Punto Banco among others. Baccarat is also considered as the easiest card game that you can play provided that you get to learn how the game is played and the rules as well. Today, Baccarat has spread its wings to the internet world where thousands of
online gambling sites offer this great game.
Rules of Baccarat
The rules of the game are simple and direct to the point. When you join the game you are already considered a player and have the option to bet either on the banker, your hand, or a tie. Once you place your bets it is already understood that you think that that hand will win the round. You are then given two cards and the banker receives two cards as well. When the hand that you placed the bet wins you will receive even money meaning the odds are 1 – 1. On the other hand when you bet on a tie and won, you will receive 8 times more than your original bet.
The Winning Hand
What is the winning hand in Baccarat? The hand that is closest to nine wins the game. Each card has its equivalent value. The ace is equal to 1 while the numbers 2 to 9 represent the same face value. The ten cards as well as the jack, queen and king have zero value. Now comes the tricky part. In Baccarat there is no such thing as “bust” which is common in the game of Blackjack. Bust means the cards that you have exceeds the winning hand where in Baccarat’s case is nine. In the game of Baccarat when you have double digits, the first number is always dropped. So let us say for example the cards given to you are 7 and 9. The total result is 16, so we need to drop the first number which is 1. Your hand is now equal to 6.
When your hand is equal to an eight or nine this is often referred to as ‘natural’ and will win the round provided that there are no ties between the two. When this happens the two hands are asked to stand and the hand that is called as the ‘natural’ will win the game. If however both the hands are not natural an additional hand will be dealt to the player and the banker for a winner to be determined.
These are only the basic rules that you need to learn when it comes to playing Baccarat. Since there are different variations of the game, it is important that you learn them first before playing so you can come up with a strategy to beat your opponents as well as the banker. Baccarat is definitely an easy game to play so beginners should not be worried on how to play the game. Just learn the rules, and practice all the time and you will soon get the hang of it.
