Baseball is a unique sport to wager on because it is different than most sports out there. Unlike football or basketball betting, you do not need to hit close to 60% in baseball to show some serious profit. In baseball you can hit 50% or sometimes even lower if you find out the meaning of VALUE when betting baseball.
VALUE is when you have a small underdog who has a serious chance of winning that game. For instance, last night the NY Yankees were +130 against the Boston Red Sox. These two teams are evenly matched up and the Yankees have a serious chance of winning this game. Instead of laying all that juice on the Red Sox to win, there is more VALUE in taking the Yankees because there is no juice and you are winning $130 to every $100 you bet.
Another huge way to make some serious money in baseball is by the RUN TOTAL. The total is how many runs that you think both teams are going to score combined. Most people at first glance will see a low number like 7 and automatically jump on the OVER because that number is so low. In reality, it should be the exact opposite. Vegas and line makers know much more than we ever will and if the number is that low then there is a good chance that these two pitchers can seriously pitch and their offenses aren’t the best. For instance if Tim Lincecum is pitching against Roy Halladay, the number is going to be tremendously low. That is because these two pitchers have a very good chance of going out there and shutting the other team down. On the other hand, if the Yankees are playing the Red Sox and it is #5 starter Phil Hughes against #5 starter Clay Bucholtz, the number will go as high as 9 or 10 and you might want to seriously consider the OVER on this play because the offense will dominate these two young pitchers who tend to make mistakes and leave the ball in the middle of the plate.
If this is too confusing for you and you found yourself lost, here are some simple rules to live by to make some money this year in baseball.
– Never take a favorite over -150. That is too much juice and if they lose, which they will, you will be paying $150 to every $100, which will add up.
– PITCHING ALWAYS DOMINATES HITTING. More often than not a good pitcher will have its way with a team before a hitter lights up a good pitcher.
– UNDERS are easy money with good pitchers on the mound.
If you follow those three simple rules and follow them religiously, then you will be able to keep a float this summer and be in a good position to make some serious money in the process! Don’t try to go for that 65% with all favorites, go for the 50% mark with underdogs and you will see it is much more effective for your wallet!
