Doyle Brunson, the Godfather of Poker, has ended his contract with Doyles Room Poker, the online poker site he sponsored into existence.
In a dramatic turn of the tide, one of poker’s greatest players has left the poker site bearing his name. Doyle Brunson and DoylesRoom.com are together no more. It should come as no surprise that the move was in direct response to the recent U.S. government attack on poker sites serving U.S. players, as Doyle Brunson is a U.S. citizen and resident and the poker site DoylesRoom.com has chosen to still serve U.S. players.
In a statement Doyle Brunson expressed his remorse for his decision to go, but explained that he did not want to be in violation of U.S. law. Mr. Brunson also said in his statement that he has requested the site cease using his name and likeness to market itself and that it no longer use the domain name DoylesRoom. The site, however, does not appear to be honoring this request as you can still find the Poker Dolly’s face and signature on the homepage should you browse to DoylesRoom.com.
Brunson was still wearing the poker site’s apparel at the last poker event at which he was seen, the $25,000 World Poker Tour Championship last Saturday. He has been quiet on his Twitter feed about the move as well.
This comes at a time when Doyles Room Poker is just releasing a new poker software client that gives players more features and better game play than ever.
