A trailer for the long-awaited poker documentary “All In” is finally making the rounds. The movie, fully titles “All In – The Poker Movie” stars Matt Damon as narrator and opens in theaters on March 23.
To paraphrase the producers’ summary of the film, it tracks the poker boom which began in New York City’s underground clubs and evolved into a culture of spreading home games, live casino poker, and online poker across the globe, until the government of the United States closed down the planet’s 3 largest online poker rooms. Or as they call it, “The definitive story of the rise, fall and rebirth of poker.”
In addition to Matt Damon’s narration, viewers can plan on seeing familiar poker faces that include Frank Deford, Annie Duke, Chris Ferguson, Ira Glass, Phil Hellmuth Jr, Doris Kearns Goodwin, Phil Laak, Howard Lederer, Mike Sexton, and Daniel Negreanu.
The movie also highlights the turning point in poker from a professionals sport to a venue where any average Joe can win a buck when amateur at home online poker player Chris Moneymaker won the World Series of Poker Championship after winning his seat in the event through a low-cost online satellite.
There’s also lots of old poker footage, including of poker legends Amarillo Slim and Stuart Unger in their younger days.
The movie will also be available for download via iTunes on April 24.
