Texas Hold’em Strategies

Poker has grown steadily in terms of its popularity during the course of the decades. Today, the game of poker is ever more popular. It’s gone on to the mainstream that there are countless variants of the game existing today. One of the most popular forms of poker would be Texas Hold’em, which is a community card type of poker. It’s quite the popular type since it’s not too simple and not too complex. The players can devise multiple types of texas holdem strategies as they play on.

The Bets and the Phases

Like the other variations of poker, the objective of the players is to win the pot money the group of players has contributed as their bets. Players are given the opportunity to bet or fold during the different phases of the game. The phases of the game consist of the pre-flop, the flop, the turn, and the river after which the showdown then commences to determine the winner. The game starts when the dealer deals each player a couple of cards faced down and another five to the dealer. The players then will decide whether to play the card, raise, or fold. The first three cards of the five cards on the dealer, also known as the flop, will then be revealed. Once again, the players will be given the chance to act during this phase. After all players have made their actions, the dealer then reveals the fourth card. This phase is called the turn, and once again, players will be given time to act. The last of the five cards will then be revealed. This is also known as the river, and players will again choose whether too check, raise, call or fold. After the river, the showdown then commences, and the winner is determined. Having a number of phases and betting opportunities, Texas Hold’em proves to be quite the enjoyable variation of poker since players will have the chance to make use of several strategies for winning.

Ranks and Ties

Texas Hold’em uses the ranks of standard poker. Straight Flushes are the best combination, the highest of which is the Royal Flush, while High Card hands are the least valuable. If ever there is a tie in terms of the rank of the players’ hands, the kicker card will then be used decide as to which player wins the pot. Should the players make use of exactly similar combination (possible since this is a community card game), the pot money is split among those who are still playing during the showdown.

Strategies

One really good way of playing the Texas Hold’em is to remain tight aggressive. It means that you’ll be playing quite a few hands to be on the safe side, and raise whenever you get the opportunity of having a good hand. With this, you will more likely survive than the other players longer, thus gaining information about the playing style of your opponents. Another good idea is to make sure that you keep a straight poker face during the course of the game to make it difficult for your opponents to read your intentions.
