Thanks to Maine voters, soon players will be able to enjoy table games at the state’s two live casinos: Hollywood Slots and the planned new casino in Oxford county. Maine will not, however, see any new casinos added to its landscape anytime soon.

In the recent November 2011 election, Maine state voters passed legislation to permit its existing casinos to start offering table games. As a result, Hollywood Slots, located in Bangor, Maine, will be changing its name to Hollywood Casino to reflect the fact that it will soon no longer be offering only slots. In fact the expanding casino intends to boost its offerings with 14 new table games. Six of them will be blackjack tables, four will be for Texas Hold’em and one table each will be devoted to the following four games: craps, roulette, three-card poker and Let-it-Ride poker.

This new legislation also allows the only other Maine state casino, still under construction, to offer table games when it opens in June of 2012 as well. As such, the Oxford based casino estimates it will have at least 10 table games in its repertoire.

Hollywood Slots estimates the addition will create 89 new jobs in the state for an approximate $4 million total annual salary and benefits. Hollywood Slots already offers 1,000 slot machines as well as pari-mutuel betting on horse races taking place at tracks around the nation.

In related news, Maine voters knocked down two other proposed casino bills, both of which would have allowed new casinos to be built in the state.
