The Martingale System as Roulette Strategy

There are many strategies that you can employ when you want to play roulette, but there are only a few that will really work well to your advantage. For this reason, you really should choose the strategy that you want to use as well as make sure that it will benefit you.

One such roulette strategy that many swear by is the Martingale system. However, you should know that if you want to use this strategy, you will need a bigger bankroll because you are going to double your bets each and every time you lose a bet.

The Martingale System

In a nutshell, the Martingale system asks that you should always double your bets when you lose in roulette. The rationale behind this is that, if you win the next bet, then you have your loss covered.

So, how does the Martingale system work?

Let us say for example that you placed a bet worth $5 on black but the result came out red, then you would have lost your bet. Now, when you apply the Martingale system, you should double the amount of bet that you are going to place for the next round, so your $5 bet now becomes $10. If you lose once more, then that $10 bet becomes $20, and so on and so forth. This strategy also requires you to continue doubling your bet until such time that you win, in which case, you would break even because you have your loss covered with some extra cash to boot because of continuously doubling your bets.

Advantage and Disadvantages of the Martingale System

Let us explore the advantages and disadvantages of the Martingale system.

Let us say that you lost your first bet, which is worth $5. Using the Martingale system, you would bet $10 the next round. Now, let us say that you won that round. Not only have you recovered your original loss of $5, but you have also won $5. This is a good way to increase your bankroll, provided you win often.

But let us face the truth. Roulette is a game of chance and luck, so you will probably lose more than you will win, and for this reason, the Martingale system will not work to your advantage. Here is why.

You will definitely need a big bankroll to fund your games if you are going to make use of the Martingale system because if you suffer from a losing streak, chances are, you are going to quickly lose your bankroll. In fact, studies have shown that roulette players are more likely to go broke if they follow the Martingale system.

Weighing the pros and the cons of using the Martingale system is a must if you are thinking of using this strategy when you play roulette. You should really think it over, especially if you have a limited or a small bankroll to start with, because doubling your bets each time you lose is a surefire way of draining your bankroll dry
