An intrastate online gambling bill has passed both houses of the New Jersey state legislature. Now it heads to Governor Christie’s desk where it faces its final hurdle – his veto pen.
New Jersey lawmakers have passed an intrastate online gambling bill that would allow online casino and online poker gambling to players within state borders.
New Jersey State Senator Raymond Lesniak introduced the bill, which first cleared the assembly by a vote of 63-11 (with 3 assembly members abstaining from casting their vote). Just recently, the New Jersey State Senate approved the intrastate online gambling bill with a vote of 34 to 2. Now that the bill, which would allow internet gambling for players within the state of New Jersey, has passed both bodies of state lawmakers it heads to Governor Chris Christie to be signed into law. There is some lingering question, however, about whether or not the Republican governor will actually sign the bill.
If the NJ intrastate internet gambling bill is signed into law, then it would allow the state’s land-based casinos, like Harrah’s Casino and Trump Casino, to offer online versions of their games, from slots to roulette, blackjack to poker.
It really should be no wonder that such a bill would pass, if anywhere, in the gambling-friendly state of New Jersey, with its prominent Atlantic City casino gambling mecca. What would be a wonder, and a shame, would be if the Governor refused to sign it. Especially when it’s expected to add $100 million to NJ sate revenues and create 500 new jobs within the state.
