Party Poker Gets Rid of Tournament Fees

In a bold and generous move (and what might be an industry first) Party Poker has just done away with multi-table tournament fees for the rest of the summer, in some cases boosting the prize pools by those same amounts.

You know what those pesky tournament fees are, don’t you? They’re the monetary amount listed after the plus sign in a tournament buy-in such as $10 + $1. In that example that extra $1 is a fee paid to the poker site on top of the tournament buy-in as payment for hosting the game. Well Party Poker has just decided to spare its players that expense on all MTTs (or multi-table tournaments). Of course this is a limited time offer, running solely for summer 2011.

Also of course, there are some conditions. If the tournament buy-in is larger than $6 then Party Poker will vanquish the tournament fee tacked onto it altogether. If the tournament buy-in is less, then Party Poker will just add the amount to the buy-in. In such cases, that only gives the illusion that there’s no fee because there’s no plus sign or second amount. But if the buy-in goes up, then that seems as good as a fee to most players. Except it’s not. That amount, by being added to the buy-in, is added to the prize pool as well, since the buy-ins are how the prize pools get funded.

Additionally, at feeder qualifier tournaments in which a rake is ordinarily taken, Party Poker will cease taking that rake for the duration of this promotion.
