Poker Pro Greg Raymer Arrested in Prostitution Sting
The 2004 World Series of Poker Champion known as Fossilman, Greg Raymer, was arrested in North Carolina on charges of soliciting prostitution.
Enter “online poker” or even just “poker” into Google News or Yahoo News and you’re likely to see 9 out of 10 entries referring to this big scandal in the world of poker that has nothing at all to do with poker, except its player: Greg Raymer, known as Fossilman and seen at the poker felt wearing sunglasses with a hologram of lizard eyes on the lenses, and the winner of the 2004 World Series of Poker Main Event. Last week he was arrested in Wake Forest, North Caroline for responding to an add from a prostitute who turned out to be an undercover cop.
Caught up in a sting + celebrity status = big news, by the looks of it, so we would be remiss if we didn’t take 1 post to address this “news”. So, according to Raymer’s attorney, his client apologizes for what he calls a “lapse in judgment.”
After Raymer won the 2004 WSOP, getting about $1.7 million post-taxes, he quit his job and devoted himself to poker, moving to an upscale neighborhood in Raleigh, North Carolina. It was in a Wake Forest, North Carolina where Raymer was arrested or soliciting prostitution. He was one of 6 people swept up in this particular sting.
So while the news cycle on this non-story wears itself out, just keep in mind, Raymer could still kick most of our butts at the poker table.
