The new Atlantic City Revel Casino opening in May of 2012 is designed to be the state’s second tallest building, and that puts the AC fire department in a bind, as its ladder is currently seven times too short for the climb.

There’s a new casino being built in Atlantic City, New Jersey, and it won’t just be any other ordinary casino. This one, the Revel Casino, is going to be 710 feet tall, making it the second tallest buildings in the entire state, second only to Jersey City’s 781 foot tall Goldman Sachs building. More importantly, that’s seven times taller than the local fire department’s tallest ladder.

That means if the casino opened today and there was a fire in any of its 1,000 rooms, the fire department would have a hard time fighting the fire and getting people out. Fortunately, the Atlantic City Revel Casino doesn’t open until May 2012, and during this span of time leading up to it, the local fire department is preparing to get itself set up with the necessary upgrades.

In other Atlantic City news, the Monmoth Park horse racing track and the Resorts Casino Hotel have signed a marketing partnership aimed at helping both gaming establishments to benefit off of each other’s customer base.

Legalized gambling in Atlantic City started in 1978 and in all that time since, there has not been one major casino fire. Of course Fire Chief Dennis Brooks and his department are preparing just the same. What’s more, the building is being fitted with a full sprinkler system and network of internal pipes.
